Do you like the smell of beer and fights in the air when you
perform? Are you a true comic and not
just a joke-teller? Does a random shout
from the crowd make you salivate instead of crumble?
Jack Daniels, in conjunction with Verausity Writing and
Penuches Ale House, is looking for comics that aren’t afraid to get their hands
as dirty as the language they might use.
And if you come out on top, Jack Daniels is going to hit you with a true
prize package:
- ·
$500 Cash
- ·
2 Paid Bar Show Feature Spots (Within New
England)
- ·
Paid Opening Spot at Headliners Comedy Club in
Manchester NH (Courtesy of Rob Steen)
Between 40-60 comics will be accepted into the contest and
will compete in our prelims on August 1st, 8th, 15th,
and 22nd. 2-3 comics from
each week will advance to our finals, to be held on Monday, August 29th. While some wild card spots may be issued at
clubs throughout New England, all official rounds of the contest will be held
at Penuches Ale House in Concord NH.
Prelim sets will be five minutes each.
Sets for the finals will be seven minutes each.
So how do you get in??
- Submit a
3-5 minute clip to contest@jaygrove.com. To be considered for the contest, you should
be getting great laughs during your clip.
Clips demonstrating the ability to successfully work with crowds and
disturbances will receive priority. All
entries are due by 5pm on Friday, July 8th, 2011. Successful entrants will be notified via
e-mail on or before July 15th, 2011.
A full roster will also be posted on the Facebook event page, as well as
www.jaygrove.com. At this time, accepted contestants will be
assigned a prelim date. Because of the
number of comics that we’re trying to accommodate, we will not be able to honor
requests for specific prelim dates.
- There is a $20, non-refundable entry fee for the
contest, ONLY if you’re accepted in.
There is no cost to send your clip in for consideration. Accepted contestants will need to have their
payment in on or before Friday July 22nd to retain their spot in the
contest.
- Contest acceptance is solely at the discretion
of the judges.
- There are no language or content guidelines,
except that you are entertaining as opposed to offensive.
- A panel of three judges will judge each prelim
round and finals. These judges may vary
from week to week. Our scoring categories will be:
- Funny:
Bottom line, do you get laughs from the crowd and judges consistently onstage.
- Stage
Ability: Eye contact. Ability to roll with the punches of a bar crowd.
Likeability.
- Post Set
Crowd Response: Basically, the
old-fashioned applause meter.
